Lampare

You see them, moving away from the port just after the siesta and shining offshore in the dark of the night. Then again you see them coming back to the mainland, in the port, with the first rays of the sun.  They are Lampare, peculiar vessels used to fish soles. They draw the fish at night with lights (called “lampare” : lamps). It is a fairly complex fishery, made by 13 men and four ships, three of which are located on the main vessel. In a world where we do not ask anymore where the fish that we eat every day comes from, this project wants to bring to light the lives of these men who work in the dark. Men, who have made a blood oath with the sea, live every day in risk and uncertainty. Fishermen wait all night meanwhile the captain tries to find where to stop. There is neither a place nor a precise time. The sea, in its being unpredictable, guides men in the night. The wait is continuous and the anxiety is constant, no one can make mistakes, and they all move in an organized and coordinated way.
